How to Apply DTF Transfers
Professional results every time. Follow these steps for maximum durability and vibrant color.
What You'll Need
Recommended over household iron for best results
Protects your transfer and garment during pressing
Printed on premium film with hot-melt adhesive
Cotton, polyester, or blends (pre-washed recommended)
Optional but helpful for positioning
Precise timing is critical for perfect adhesion
Step-by-Step Application
Pre-Press Your Garment
Place garment on heat press. Press for 5–10 seconds at 300°F to remove moisture and wrinkles. This is critical for strong adhesion.
Position the Transfer
Place the DTF transfer face down on the garment. Use heat-resistant tape if needed to hold it in place. Make sure it's straight and centered.
Cover with Parchment Paper
Lay a sheet of parchment paper over the entire transfer. This protects both the film and your heat press platen.
Heat Press
Recommended Settings:
Temperature: 305–320°F (150–160°C)
Time: 15–20 seconds
Pressure: Medium to Heavy (60–80 psi)
Press firmly and evenly.
Peel the Film
Most 707DTF films are hot peel. Peel the clear carrier film immediately after pressing while still warm. Peel slowly at a 45° angle.
If your film is cold peel, wait until completely cool before peeling.
Post-Press (Highly Recommended)
Place parchment paper back over the design and press again for 5–10 seconds. This improves durability and gives a smoother finish.
Pro Tips for Best Results
Pre-Wash Garments
Wash garments before applying transfers. This removes sizing and reduces shrinkage after pressing.
Test First
Always test press on a scrap garment or hidden area first, especially when using a new heat press or fabric type.
Don't Over-Press
Too much time or pressure can cause the adhesive to bleed or the design to look shiny.
Multiple Colors
When layering colors, press each color separately and allow to cool slightly between layers.
Fabric Guide
Recommended: 325°F for 10 seconds. Peel the carrier film immediately, followed by a second press for 10 seconds.
Recommended: 280°F for 8 seconds. Allow the garment to cool before peeling, then perform a second press for 8 seconds.
Recommended: 310°F for 10 seconds. Peel the carrier film immediately, followed by a second press for 10 seconds.
Recommended: 280–300°F for 8 seconds. Allow the garment to cool, peel the carrier film, then press again.
Washing & Care
Wait 24 Hours
Before first wash when possible.
Washing Instructions
Turn garment inside out. Wash in cold water on gentle cycle. Use mild detergent. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
Drying & Care
Tumble dry low or air dry. Do not iron directly on the design.
Troubleshooting
Edges peeling after wash
Increase pressure or press time. Make sure garment was pre-pressed.
Design looks shiny or plastic-y
Too much pressure or time. Reduce by a few seconds next time.
Ink cracking
Usually caused by stretching the garment while hot. Let it cool fully before stretching.
Transfer not sticking at all
Check your temperature. Heat presses can be inaccurate — use an infrared thermometer.
